Hi! My name is Elise Jessica (I'm going to use my full name professionally, everyone calls me Elise). I am from Levittown, New York and have lived there all of my life with my parents, my twin sister and our miniature poodle. For undergrad, I went to Eugene Lang College, The New School for Liberal Arts, and graduated in May (2009) with a BA in Media and Cultural Studies. I plan on going to grad school at some point, most likely for Journalism. Right now, the big plan is to get into writing about music as a career. My music tastes lie within 1990s punk, for the most part. For those that know me, my favorite band is Green Day, but I also like Everclear, The Offspring, Weezer, Eve 6, Lagwagon, Me First and the Gimme Gimmes, Garbage, No Doubt, the list can go on. That is not to say that music now is terrible, otherwise I wouldn't be writing this blog. I'm a big fan of Franz Ferdinand and Ludo, and many more. I love finding new bands and seeing bands live. In three-and-a-half years in the city (my first year in college,except for a little at the end, was mainly getting used to living away from home) I have seen over thirty shows. My cultural music tastes lie in 1970s punk. I find punk subculture (and subculture in general) interesting because it comes from somewhere. These people want to be different and I can (or at least like to believe I can) relate to that. My writing credits include many research papers on punk and "emo" subcultures, Jews in popular music/culture, local music history and live music culture (subculture and fandom). In my final semester of undergrad, I interned for the station KROCK, which was my favorite station. Then in March, the station flipped formats to Top 40 and started calling itself 92.3 NOW, turning KROCK into an HD/internet station playing more popular rock. At this point I ended up writing for the blogs of both websites.
